Design

For review, we have got the Prism Dot Black color variant of Samsung Galaxy M42 5G, which looks quite spectacular. The smartphone will look like Samsung's A-series device at first glance. The display with Infinity-U design has been given in the phone. Talking about the rear side, there is a polycarbonate panel, which comes with glossy and pattern finish. There are small dots in it, which look good. However, fingerprints and scratches tend to come on the rear panel very quickly, so we recommend using it along with the back cover.

The frame of the handset is also plastic, but it has been designed quite thin. It has very thin power and volume buttons. On the left side is the SIM slot, which houses a hybrid SIM-tray. At the bottom are the 3.5mm headphone jack hole, USB Type-C port and speaker grille. Overall the design of the phone looks premium and handy. The Galaxy M42 weighs 193 grams. Due to the good weight balance, it can also be used with one hand. The handset comes with a great design and premium look.

Display

The Galaxy M42 5G sports a 6.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display, which is good. However, according to its price, the phone should have got a Full HD + display. Despite this, Samsung's display is quite bright. There are few occasions when the phone lacks Full HD + display. On some occasions, the brightness of the phone seems to be low (when using auto brightness), although this can be corrected manually. The colors on the screen are very well visible while gaming and watching videos, so we do not complain about the display. The phone has an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is not very fast but works at average speed.

Performance

Samsung has given Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor in this new phone. It gets One UI 3.1 based on Android 11, which comes with Knox security and Samsung Pay. That is, no cut has been made in the UI of the phone, almost all the premium features from Samsung have been given in it. This phone comes with RAM option up to 8GB. However, we have only used a device with 6GB of RAM.

We did not see any problem in terms of performance. Call of Duty can also be played in Galaxy M42 on Very High and Max graphics settings. We played this game for a long time, in which there is no visible frame drop. However, the phone does get a little hot, but it is normal for this to happen. Apart from this, the phone works well even in everyday use.

OneUI 3.1 has been given in the phone. There are many bloatware and Samsung apps to be seen in this. However, the good thing is that you can delete most of it. We have got a new update as soon as we turn on the phone. Samsung is doing a great job with the updates, so software updates for the handset need not be a concern. Although we did not see any serious problem in this phone, but there was some problem in the setting. During this OneUI Home stopped working. However, the problem has been seen in few places, hopefully this problem will be over after the update.

Camera

Nowadays, while buying a smartphone, consumers pay a lot of attention to the camera. This phone has a quad rear camera setup, which has a 48MP main, 8MP ultra wide angle lens, 5MP depth and 5MP macro lens. In the front, the company has given a 20MP lens. The camera performs well in both low-light and natural light. For its price, the camera does not show any flaws.

The rear camera setup works well even at night, from the macro lens to the main camera, good pictures are obtained. The phone's flash is also good, which helps in capturing good pictures in the dark, in which a lot of details are visible. At the same time, talking about the front camera, the photos taken in low-light or at night look mediocre. However, good selfies come in daylight. It also gets the option of single take. The phone is good in terms of camera.

Battery

Samsung has given 5000mAh battery in this device, which lasts all day. You can use this phone for a whole day in a single charge. However, with this a 15W charger is available in the box. It takes about two hours to charge the phone with this charger. Samsung has definitely made a slight cut here.

Other Features

The phone has a single speaker, which is mediocre. That is, you do not get very good sound quality in it, but it cannot be called bad either. For connectivity, the company has given 5G processor in it. However, it does get the feature of network aggregation, which is a good thing. Network reception and call quality is good. The phone can be used without any problems even in hands-free mode.

Should you buy Samsung Galaxy M42 5G?

This phone is a good option for those consumers who are looking for low budget. I want a 5G device. Samsung Galaxy M42 5G is the first device of the brand, which comes with 5G support in the budget of 20 thousand rupees. The phone has a bigger battery, better display, good camera setup and Samsung's trust with 5G, that is, you can buy it in a budget of 20 thousand rupees. The price of its 6GB + 128GB variant is Rs 20,999, while the price of 8GB + 128GB is Rs 23,999. samsung galaxy m42 5g

Due to the low capacity charger, the phone takes more time to charge.
On one or two occasions, the phone's UI hangs.
The performance of the front camera in low-light areas is average, which could have been improved.
